Junior secondary

In Junior Secondary we focus on fostering the social, emotional and academic growth of our students.  This is underpinned by positive, productive relationships, high expectations, a seamless curriculum and quality teaching that is explicit and engaging.  We aim to nurture self-belief, increase opportunities and enhance learning outcomes for our Year 7, 8 and 9 students, instilling in them a love of learning.

Key Junior Secondary Staff

Junior Secondary Deputy Principal,  will work closely with our Junior Secondary Head of Department, our HOSES, the Year 7, 8 and 9 Year Coordinators and Care teachers to support the learning and development needs of Junior Secondary students.

Junior Captain Leadership Roles

A range of junior leadership positions exist for students to increase leadership experience at Laidley SHS and provide a stepping stone into senior positions.  These include Junior School Captain, Indigenous, Performing Arts, Band, House Captains and a number of student council positions.

Assessment Calendars

The Assessment Calendar is given to students at the beginning of each semester.

Changes to Overall Position (OP) Rank

Changes to Overall Position (OP) rank to Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).  The new senior assessment system will start with students entering Year 11 in 2018. These are the current Year 10 students in 2017.  The first students to receive an ATAR instead of an OP will graduate from Year 12 in 2019. The QCAA has developed a guide for parents about senior assessment and tertiary entrance in Queensland.  Follow the link below for: https://www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/downloads/senior/snr_assessment_trials_guide.pdf
