Computers and technology

Laidley State High School aims to support your child’s education through the whole school approach to the use of technology.  This whole school approach is evident through the Pedagogical Framework that outlines the use of digital practices to deliver contemporary lessons and promote higher order thinking.  Laidley State High School offers multiple pathways in order to provide all students access to the digital technology required for their learning.  The BYOx program is for students in Year 8 through to 12.

Mr Alan Nielsen is the school IT Technician and can be found in the library for any IT assistance needs.

Bring Your Own ‘x’ (BYOx) is a new pathway supporting the delivery of 21st century learning. It is a term used to describe a digital device ownership model where students or staff, use their personally-owned mobile devices to access the department’s information and communication (ICT) network.

As part of the BYOx program students will be able to bring their personally owned device and connect it to Laidley SHS's IT network, as long as it meets the minimum operating and security requirements.
In order to support parents and guardians with the choice of which device is appropriate, what are the minimum requirements, how to care for the device and how to access and store information in a safe and secure manner, the school has published a Digital Futures Guidebook(PDF.347KB) containing all this information. This document contains all the important information and a form which must be signed and returned to the school as an application for connecting to the school's network.

In order for students to connect their device to the school's network a fee will be charged. This fee includes the licence fee charged to the school for connecting BYOx devices and a small fee for the IT Technician's time that will be used to support students and their devices throughout the year.

Take Home Laptop Hire Scheme

As well as supporting students and families to be part of the BYOx pathway, there is also the ability for students to hire one of the school owned laptops. This allows families to utilise the device 24/7 in the classroom and at home to engage students with digital learning but at a reduced cost.  The device is able to connect to the school’s network for internet access with content filtering, network storage and printing services.  While at home the device is able to be connected to the home network where it can access personal networks, internet and printing devices.

Laidley SHS EQUITY Hire Scheme

The Laidley SHS EQUITY Hire Program allows families who may be experiencing financial difficulties the ability to work with the school to provide devices for their student/s. The EQUITY Hire Program provides students to the same device and access as the Laidley SHS Laptop Hire Program but at a reduced cost.
In order to be considered for the EQUITY Hire Program, families will be required to fill in an EQUITY Hire Program form along with the Digital Futures Pathway and Responsible Use Agreement form. Please submit both forms to the school administration along with supporting documentation to enable the School’s BYOx team make a decision regarding the application. Once a decision has been made, the school will contact families to notify them of the decision.
