The school has a very strong participation and performance record in school sport.
All students in Year 7-10 study compulsory Health and Physical Education and Senior students have access to academic and vocational physical education subjects. The school gym is open before school on a regular basis for student and staff use under the supervision of Physical Education staff.

Inter-house & Inter-school Sport

Students can participate in Inter-house and Inter-school sporting activities.  The School Sports Master can assist students to take advantage of the variety of sporting opportunities available within our school.
Inter-house and Inter-school competitions are held in Swimming, Athletics, and Cross Country each year. Students are assigned to sports houses:
BOOMORI (A – G) LALLIRA (H – O) WUNDURRA (P – Z)
Inter-school sport competitions are held within the Combined Ipswich Sports area through the C.I.S.S.S.A. Winter and Summer Competitions. School teams that are successful in winning their C.I.S.S.S.A. Competition progress onto the S.E.Q Metropolitan Finals.  A variety of our school teams have won C.I.S.S.S.A. Premierships and qualified for the Metropolitan Finals in recent years. Our Open Squash Team has won the Metropolitan finals in 2012 and 2016.

Representative Sport

From 2018 onwards our students will compete for representative selection in a new District called Western District Ranges. This District is one of 5 new Districts in the Metropolitan West School Sports program and contains over 70 schools and more than 16 000 eligible students. Our 12 year old students will compete for selection in the Lockyer Zone team before attending Western District selection trials. Zone and District sports trials are held in a wide variety of team and individual sports including Swimming, Athletics, and Cross Country.
The attached Western District Ranges School Sport Information Brochure (PDF, 246KB) outlines the way the new District will operate from 2018 onwards.
Many students are selected each year to represent the District at Regional carnivals and some are selected in Regional teams to compete at State Championships. Laidley SHS performs particularly well in Athletics and has won the District Athletics carnival in recent years. A number of staff are also selected to coach or manage Metropolitan West Regional sporting teams at State Championships each year.
